Zumba Gets Kids Moving in 50,000 Classrooms

Global Fitness Brand Partners With GoNoodle and Sets Goal of Reaching Two Million Kids in 100,000 Classrooms by 2015

September 04, 2014 – MIAMI – With childhood obesity more than doubling in the past 30 years (CDC.gov), global dance-fitness company Zumba is increasing its efforts to fight this growing epidemic through its Zumba® Kids program and an innovative partnership with GoNoodle, the leading provider of online physical activity breaks to schools. To jumpstart National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month in September, Zumba®, the program known for its infectious international rhythms and easy-to-follow choreography, announces today a goal to get two million kids dancing in 100,000 classrooms throughout the 2014-15 school year.

“With more than 23 million kids and teens overweight in the U.S., small changes really can and will make a difference,” said Alberto Perlman, CEO and co-founder of Zumba. “Along with our Zumba Kids program taught by tens of thousands of licensed instructors worldwide, our partnership with GoNoodle extends our commitment to help millions of kids adopt healthy habits that they will carry their entire life.”

GoNoodle’s online physical activity breaks or “brain breaks” are used in 35,000 elementary schools throughout the US and globally. GoNoodle’s short bursts of physical activity make it easy for teachers to get kids moving inside the classroom and are proven to positively impact student behavior, focus and achievement. To coincide with Childhood Obesity Awareness Month and back-to-school, Zumba is releasing more high-energy dance routines onGoNoodle set to popular music like “Happy,” “AllStar,” and “What Makes You Beautiful.”

“Zumba Kids has quickly become our most popular ‘brain breaks’ on GoNoodle reaching over one million unique students last school year and clocking nearly 40 million minutes of incremental physical activity for kids,” said Scott McQuigg, CEO of GoNoodle. “With the new high-energy dance content from Zumba on GoNoodle, together we are continuing to make physical activity fun and accessible at school.”

To build excitement around the new Zumba® Kids content on GoNoodle, and to rally support among schools in battling childhood obesity, GoNoodle is asking teachers to share videos of their classrooms staying active with the “I Like to Move It” Zumba® Kids dance routine on GoNoodle; they can upload them on social media using the hashtag #GoZumba. A compilation video of the “I Like to Move It” submitted footage will then be created as a new Zumba® Kids “brain break,” available exclusively on GoNoodle.
