When people ask, “What was the song of 2017?” what do you think of? If you’ve listened to the radio even once this year, then surely you’ll agree with us – it’s got to be ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (and who can forget the version featuring Justin Bieber)! This major, explosive hit took the entire world by storm this year and there are no signs of it slowing down.
Just this morning, it was announced that ‘Despacito’ has been nominated for a 2018 Grammy Award in three categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group. If it wins either of the first two categories, ‘Despacito’ will become the first Spanish-language song to ever win a Grammy for Record or Song of the Year! That’s huge! Without a doubt, we’ll be tuning in to the awards show on January 28th.
However, there’s no need to wait for the Grammy Awards to realize that ‘Despacito’ is already a big winner. Check out all the accolades this smash hit has racked up this year:
- 4 Latin Grammy Awards (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Urban/Fusion Performance, and Best Short Form Music Video)
- 2 American Music Awards (Collaboration of the Year, and Favorite Song – Pop/Rock)
- 2 Teen Choice Awards (Choice Summer: Song, and Choice Latin Song)
- 2 Premios Juventud Awards (Perfect Combo, and Best Song For Singing)
Congratulations to everybody involved in making ‘Despacito’ such a success and we can’t wait for more! In the meantime, you can catch us dancing to ‘Despacito’ at our fave Zumba® class.
