The Unsung Hero program recognizes Zumba Instructor Network™ Members around the world for their outstanding contributions to their communities, and for their ability to inspire others. This month, we celebrate ZIN™ Member, and ZIN™ Community Council volunteer, Ben Watts, as our Unsung Hero!
Ben’s gentle, kind spirit is matched only by his fierce friendship and determination to help others. For the past few years at the Zumba® Instructor Convention in Orlando, Florida, Ben has made it his mission to collaborate with licensed Zumba Instructors from all over the world to collect toys and other items to donate and deliver to the Walt Disney Pavilion at the Florida Hospital for Children. He also aims to welcome new Instructors to the Zumba community by hosting a meet and greet and dinner for those who are attending Convention for the first time.
Most recently, Ben, with the help of his students, fellow instructors and members of his community, has been aiding in being of service to refugees in Europe. He has collected items such as blankets, tents, clothing and toys to help people at the refugee camp in Calais, in northern France, as well as those in the Manchester Homeless Camp, Kos Children Refugees, the Refugees of Stoke and Staffordshire, and more organizations that are in need. The refugee crisis is serious and Ben is making an impact one day at a time.
Ben, your ability to make everyone feel connected, and your compassion for all people truly inspire us. We thank you for your dedication and your selfless acts of kindness and we honor you as our December 2015 Unsung Hero.
