Jeimy Bueno is an amazing dancer – you might have seen her on stage with Beto at The XI Fitness-Concert™ – and Zumba® Presenter. Behind her awesome moves is an inspiring story about finding her passion through dance. Here is her story.
ZLife: Tell us a bit about your background.
Jeimy: I am originally from the Dominican Republic. My childhood was absolutely amazing! My parents were very supportive of my education and extracurricular activities like music, sports, and – of course – dancing. And, I grew up with the best weather that the Caribbean can offer!
ZLife: When did you discover Zumba®?
Jeimy: I discovered Zumba® in 2009 when a-coworker invited me to a class. I was working full-time as a physical therapist and I missed dancing a lot from my professional dancing days in high school and my university back home. After my first class I was completely in love with Zumba® and was inspired to get more involved. I became a licensed instructor in a B1 training with Tanya Beardsley in 2011. Since then, I’ve worked with a ton of passion and love for the brand, even getting to work as a back-up dancer for Armando and Heidy’s Caribbean Heat workshop at the Convention. I thought that was amazing enough, and then Beto chose me to be a presenter and dance at The XI Fitness-Concert™.
ZLife: A lot of people use fitness and dance to overcome challenges. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Jeimy: I have overcome so much through music, dance, and fitness. Zumba® has truly saved my life. I faced a lot of challenges when I came to the U.S. alone as an immigrant. I left my family behind at the age of 21 to pursue the American dream as a healthcare professional. But, my passion for dancing was unfulfilled and I struggled. Through Zumba®, I found purpose: to give others the joy I felt when I was the student. No matter what was going on in my life, when class started I was there for the students and they were there for me – it was magical.
ZLife: What’s your favorite Zumba® memory?
Jeimy: Wow, there are so many! One is my first Caribbean Heat workshop when Armando Salcedo called me on stage – that was incredible! And more recently, being part of the Fitness-Concert™ – everything from the rehearsals to getting to know the team.
ZLife: What’s your advice to people who may be afraid to try Zumba®?
Jeimy: Zumba® comes from a place of love and with love there’s no fear. Anyone and everyone can do it! The first step is to show up and the instructors will take you on a fun (and sweaty) journey. You’ll become part of the family right away.
