“My story starts with a bribe from my mom. In June of 2013, we took a road trip to Boston with my aunt and cousins. We spent a day in Salem and loved it – and if you know me at all, you know that I’m the Queen of Halloween. When we got home, my mom approached me with a proposal: go to Weight Watchers together and next Halloween, we will spend it in Salem. I was sold!! I went with my mom in secret, because I was afraid I would fail and I didn’t want the pressure of anyone knowing what I was up to.
A few months in, I was seeing results. One day, my hair stylist Krista said, ‘I have to tighten this cape on you! Have you lost weight?’. So I told her my secret and she immediately asked me to come to her favorite Zumba class with her. Me? In a group setting with people I don’t know? Yikes! It took three haircuts worth of Krista telling me how much fun class was before I finally agreed to go with her. I hid in the back row and felt like a fish out of water, but the hour was over before I even knew it and I wanted more.
And the rest, as they say, is history. I’m down 80 pounds. I’m no longer the shy girl in the back of the class. I’m actually a licensed Zumba Instructor. It’s given me so much more than just a fun workout. I’ve made some of my best friends because of Zumba! I can’t imagine my life without it.
By the way, my prize trip to Salem was amazing. They really do Halloween right there and it was probably one of my favorite trips that my mom and I have taken together.”
