In 2009, Stephanie Robinson became pregnant for her first time. Despite giving birth to a perfectly healthy baby, Stephanie struggled with being overweight, inactive, tired, and swollen throughout her entire pregnancy. As she watched her son grow up, she realized it was time to make a lifestyle change.
“I wanted to be healthy and active for him,” says Stephanie. “I wanted to set a good example and to live a long life.”
In 2011, Stephanie joined a weight loss program at a local gym, where a personal trainer encouraged her to try a variety of workouts, including Zumba® classes. Until that point, it was difficult for Stephanie to get excited about exercising, as every workout felt more like a chore than a good time.
“Everything changed when I stepped into my first Zumba class,” recalls Stephanie. “By the fourth song, I knew I’d found a workout I would want to do again and again.”
And persist she did. Stephanie became a regular in her favorite classes and eventually signed up for an instructor training course. Just a few months after that first class, Stephanie was a licensed Zumba instructor.
“Zumba fitness has been a huge part of my journey,” says Stephanie. “I have lost weight, lowered my blood pressure and cholesterol, and reversed Type 2 Diabetes.”
Because of the strides she had made, Stephanie was thrilled to face her second pregnancy with a new attitude and a healthy perspective. She participated in regular Zumba classes, modifying the moves as needed, until the week before she welcomed her second son in the spring of 2015.
Stephanie’s delivery nurses were amazed by her strength during the labor process. And fellow class-goers were equally stunned when she was back in Zumba class just 4 weeks after giving birth. But perhaps most surprised of all was Stephanie, who was shocked by the numbers on the scale.
“I gained only 7 pounds during my second pregnancy,” says Stephanie. “And six weeks postpartum, I weighed 25 pounds less than the day I got pregnant!”
According to Stephanie, it’s all thanks to the Zumba program.
