These Dancers are Seriously Rocking Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’

If you’ve been online today, chances are you’ve already seen (and were awed by) this viral video of dancers moving to Ed Sheeran’s new hit ‘Shape Of You’. Choreographed by Kyle Hanagami and performed by dancers at the Millennium Dance Complex, it’s simply amazing! This is what dance dreams are made of and what’s making us hurry over to Zumba® class today.

Get to know a little more about Kyle Hanagami below:

ZLife: What is about dance that makes it so universal?

KH: I genuinely think dance is universal because music is. Everyone can understand music so if you can understand music, then you can understand seeing the music as well, which is essentially what dance is: a visual representation of the music.

ZLife: What’s your favorite type of dance?

KH: I am OBSESSED with ballroom. I will be choreographing for Derek and Julianne Hough’s Move: Live on Tour in Spring 2017 and watching them do ballroom is so inspiring. They kill it like no one else I know. Right now, my favorite song to dance to is “Shape Of You” by Ed Sheeran! It’s so catchy!

ZLife: Speaking of Ed Sheeran, we’re obsessed with your choreography for ‘Shape Of You’. What was the process of creating that like?

KH: First of all, thank you so much. It’s such a great song to dance to. I just invited a bunch of friends into the studio one night and choreographed a routine to the track. It’s a very “go-with-the-flow” process. If something doesn’t feel right or work with the music, I keep trying until I feel like I get it right. I feel like there’s a perfect routine to each and every song that exists and it’s my job to figure out what that routine looks like.

ZLife: Have you ever taken a Zumba class?

KH: Who hasn’t taken a Zumba class!? It was one of the best times I’ve had in a class. I took it with a bunch of friends and we were smiling (and sweating) the whole time.

ZLife: Awesome! What can we expect from Kyle Hanagami in the future?

KH: Epicness. Nothing but epicness.
