“For as long as I can remember family, friends, classmates, and complete strangers have made disparaging comments about my weight. I believed them and convinced myself that I could never be ‘normal’. My self-esteem plummeted, and I gained more than 100-punds after I graduated from high school in 2009. My health deteriorated rapidly, and I began struggling with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) symptoms. I felt hopeless and helpless.
In February 2016, I had enough and decided to make a permanent change. I began a healthy nutrition plan and started taking cycle classes at CycleBar. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to lose a total of 50 pounds in four months.
I noticed a significant decrease in my weight-loss after losing the initial 50-pounds. As a result, I decided to incorporate a variety of workouts into my exercise routine. One of the instructors at CycleBar also happened to teach Zumba at Life Time Fitness, so I signed up for a gym membership and began taking classes.
Zumba allowed me to dance away the extra weight and lose an additional 50 pounds within the next 9 months. In addition, I was able to meet numerous Life Time members who share the same passion for fitness as I do. These ladies help me stay motivated through their support and encouragement. I love Zumba classes because they allow me to get in a high cardio workout, while still having fun and getting to spend time with my friends.
I have lost a total of 103-pounds to date. Losing weight has drastically changed my life. One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is getting my PCOS symptoms under control.
I would advise anyone who is trying to lose weight to get involved in the fitness community. Find a fitness mentor (i.e. instructor, trainer, or nutritionist), become friends with people who are passionate about health and wellness, and have an accountability buddy. All of these things will help you stay motivated and give you the additional support you will need during difficult moments in your weight loss journey.”
