The Artists Behind the Zumba® Music You Love
One of the things that makes the Zumba® program so fun is the music. While you’re nailing the moves and breaking a sweat, you’re probably also singing (or, trying to!) along to songs that quickly become some of your favorites. There are a few artists that you’ve probably heard in class and wondered who they are. Here’s the scoop on some of the singers whose music we love to dance to!
Born on the island of Cyprus, Greece, Myrto Meletiou is a dancer/singer/a
Armando Salcedo and Heidy Torres
Not only are these two amazing dancers International Zumba presenters, but they are the duo behind hits like “Pega Pega”, “Mi Gente” and “My Check”. Armando has danced his way around the world, touring in Asia, Europe and Latin America. Heidy is a dancer, singer, and model known for her incredible style and ability to get the crowd going wherever she goes!
Here’s Armando and Heidy in action… but be careful, this song is known to get stuck in your head!
J. Perry brings his Haitian flavor to songs like “Bouje” and “Konsey”. Today, his music crosses different genres, like soca and dancehall, but here’s a little known fact: J. Perry started playing classical music at the age of 6, and was well known for his early talent. We’re glad he made the switch to music we can dance to! Here’s the video for his hit “Bouje”.
Have you been moving your popee lately? The artist behind the wildly popular “Popee” is also a world-renowned dancer, shakin’ it with celebs like Mariah Carey, Jay-Z and Ricky Martin. Francesca is originally from Italy but spends these days singing and dancing in New York. Check out the guys of Zumba’s #RealMenDance campaign grooving to Francesca’s latest hit!
Not only is she Beto’s personal choreographer and an International Zumba presenter, but she is also the face behind the hit “Ta Pegao”. Liana was born in Massachusetts and has always had a huge passion for music and dance. Check her out in action here.
Dahrio Wonder has a long resume: singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, actor – the list goes on! He may live in California, but he attributes his unique style to his multi-cultural background (being of African American and Filipino descent). His songs “Give it To Me”,” Sexy Ladies” and “Came Here to Party” are Zumba class hits – here he is doing his thing!
Ray “El Ingeniero”
Multi Grammy-award winning artist Ray “El Ingeniero” has been a force in the music industry for many years. With hits like “Yo Que Tu” featuring Zumba creator Beto Perez, Ray knows how to give us the beats that make us fall in love with a Zumba class. See his video below.
