New Season, New You! Spring Cleaning Tips

It’s spring time for many of us around the world, and that means it’s time for spring cleaning! There are many explanations for why we have a custom of cleaning in the spring, ranging from traditions found in Jewish and Chinese cultures to the biological boost of energy we get as winter ends. Whatever moves you to do it, getting your spring cleaning done can help you meet fitness goals, too! Here are five tips for getting the most out of spring cleaning.

1. Refresh your playlist:
As much as we love Uptown Funk, if you’re still listening to last year’s hits it’s time to download some new tunes. A change of rhythm can reinvigorate your workout and get you ready for a new season.

2. Clean out your workout clothes drawer(s):
Let’s be honest: we all have clothes we’ve held on to for too long. If it has holes or worse (pit stains – yuck!), it’s time to get rid of it. Besides, you need to make way for all the new Zumba wear styles!

3. Change your sneakers:
Did you know your sneakers should be replaced every 3-6 months, or 350-500 miles? This will help prevent injury so you can stick to your regular routine.

4. Restock your gym bag:
Having the right things during your workout can make exercise more fun, and even more effective. Your gym bag should always be stocked with a big, full water bottle and a clean towel. Having high protein drinks or snacks will help you avoid undoing your workout with processed junk food. You might also want deodorant, a spare toothbrush, and face wipes to clean up after a sweat fest!

5. Reset your goals:
Winter isn’t the best season for fitness motivation, but spring brings new opportunities. Get rid of any lingering guilt and write down some new goals to achieve before summer!

PS – General spring cleaning tip: If you haven’t done it this season yet, check the batteries in your smoke detectors! It’s a must-do twice per year and only takes a few seconds.
