More and more people are taking Zumba® classes to get fit, unwind, and have a great time. Zumba is also becoming a bigger part of pop culture, with references to our favorite exercise format on TV, online, and in newsstands. How many of these Zumba “sightings” have you caught?
Here comes the bride (and her back up dancers!)
On Four weddings UK, four brides compete for a glamorous honeymoon and earn points by having the best décor, dress, food, and guest experience. In April 2012, Zumba instructor Claire Kingsley helped her friend Stacey earn some points with surprise entertainment – a Zumba flash mob! The dance to Ne-Yo’s Give Me Everything impressed the other brides and brought Zumba into millions of viewers’ homes in season 4 of the show.
What do you have in common with Jordin Sparks, Ashley Judd, and Kirstie Alley? A love of Zumba, of course! They’ve all been quoted talking about dancing their way to slim waists and peace of mind. Check out this old school Zumba infomercial featuring two other stars who love to shake it – Vivica A. Fox and Stacy Keibler.
The First Lady and AC Slater inspire a younger generation
Just when you thought the First Lady couldn’t get any cooler, here’s Michelle Obama and TV personality Mario Lopez taking a Zumba class with a group of very lucky kids.
TV doctors turned dancers
In 2009, Dr. Oz rocked the destroza as he demonstrated Zumba moves on his show.
A couple of years later, Doctors Travis Stork and James Sears followed in his footsteps and learned a few moves with the help of Zumba Fitness 2 for Wii!
Shaking up the experts’ routines
Zumba is all over our favorite health and fitness magazines. From Fitness Magazine’s party in the pool to Shape’s experience dancing with Kass Martin, Zumba classes are a go-to for fitness pros looking for different ways to sweat. We love hearing their stories about trying new ways to enjoy dance fitness.
KLG and Hoda get down
In 2011, Zumba creator Beto visited the Today show and led a massive dance party with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. They totally nailed the moves!
He’s really an instructor!
Chicago Fire’s Joe Cruz (played by adorable actor Joe Minoso) actually led a Zumba class in an episode of the show! It was no accident that it landed in the script – Joe Minoso is a licensed instructor in real life. Zumba actually helped change Joe’s life. You can read more about his story here, and check out his moves at the 2015 Zumba Instructor Convention below!
“Are you taking a Zumba class?”
We love the last line of this Geico commercial! Mom hears action and excitement in the background while on the phone with her son and, of course, assumes he’s at a Zumba class!
