Z-Life Home Remedies for Gleaming Tresses!
2011
Often, with all the hair products and bottles and boxes and tubes of goo we have in our bathrooms, we forget that we can easily use things found in our kitchen to make our hair look its very healthiest. For many years, kitchen staples such as olive oil, mayonnaise and avocado have been applied to hair, way before all the magic was promised by hair care companies. So open up your pantry and kitchen cabinets, and lets see what’s in there to bring out the rock star in your hair.
Vinegar is home staple that can do wonders for your do. Apple cider vinegar is a popular choice for restoring the natural ph level. It also helps to get rid of shampoo and conditioner buildup and cleanses away excess hair products. A major reason for hair that cannot reflect light, which is what gives hair shine in the first place, is build-up from every day beauty products such as cleansers, conditioners and gels, mousses, serums, leave in conditioners, etc. Merely getting the coating off of your hair will give it the opportunity to shine!
Chamomile tea and lemon juice are popular for blonde hair, while rosemary and sage herbs bring out shine in dark-haired beauties. A cranberry juice rinse is quick and easy refresher for redheads.
In addition to being a nutritious healthy fat, olive oil is also a great hair conditioner. You can easily make you own hot oil treatment by warming half a quarter cup in the microwave (not too hot!) and using a wide tooth comb to distribute it evenly from roots to ends. Wrap your hair in a towel and relax for 30 minutes, then shampoo as usual. Be sure to massage your scalp well with shampoo to clean off all the oil.
Mayo is good for something other than slathering on your cheeseburger. A mayonnaise pack will work wonders for dry or over processed hair, too. Some recipes suggest adding a drop or two of vanilla or almond extract to help with the smell. And don’t forget all the hair goodies just waiting for you in the produce section of your local grocery store or farmer’s market. For instance, avocado contains natural oils and helps to keep your hair strands strong and prevent breakage.
A quick search on the Internet will bring up countless pairings for home items to help give you gleaming tresses. Next time you run out of pricey conditioners or once a week deep conditioning treatments, just visit your very own kitchen, as it’s probably a lab in and of itself! Ask your grandmother, Mother or Aunts for ideas about what to use from your own kitchen to have hair that turns heads.
