Taking care of your sweet tooth…
2011
Though most of us didn’t know it, October was National Dental Hygiene Month, an opportunity to “encourage others to develop and continue with a daily oral health routine.” And with Halloween upon us, we’re honoring the month with a few tips and tricks to make your treats even sweeter:
• Worried about all that candy? Check our the ADA’s tips for maintaing your pearly whites amongst a plethora of sugar. The short version: drink lots of water, avoid hard or sticky candies that remain in your mouth for a long period of time and try to consume candy with meals when possible to increase saliva and neutralize acids.
• Looking for a new toothpaste? Colgate recently introduced two new products to it’s arsenal: Colgate Optic White, a whitening toothpaste that whitens from “the inside out,” and promises a whiter smile in just a week; and Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief, which targets those of us with sensitivity issues.
• Need a reason to floss? From the too good to probably be true files comes cupcake frosting-flavored dental floss. Talk about a reason to keep up your flossing! (Oh, and for those with less of a proclivity towards sweets, it also comes in breakfast and bacon flavors…).

I love Colgate products! It’s all I will use and promote, and I’m excited to try this new toothpaste. The ingredient added to this toothpaste that makes it different is hydrogen peroxide. But that does NOT mean you should ever swish with hydrogen peroxide alone! It is safe ONLY when added with other appropriate ingredients, which is what Colgate has done with Optic White. So use this product and be careful not to confuse it’s new ingredient as an effective rinse.
Also, it does not whiten from the inside out! That is impossible. Whitening from the inside out requires drilling a hole into the tooth (and a root canal like procedure).
