Confession: I hate doing my make-up in the morning. I hate it so much that over the past six months I’ve actually devised an entire system to ensure it takes less than 5 minutes to get from tinted moisturizer to out the door. And I know I’m not the only one.  In fact, when brainstorming questions for our fall profile on the lovely Gina Grant, one of the most frequent questions that came up was a simple “Between travel, work and family, how do you always look so good?” One of her favorite beauty tips? NovaLash eyelash extensions.

And she’s not alone. Celebs from Beyonce to J.Lo depend on lash extensions to help them wake up looking gorgeous. Created by biologist and cosmetic chemist Sophy Merszei, NovaLash extensions are attached by trained professionals and can be worn throughout the year, with touch-ups recommended about every four weeks. And in addition to virtually eliminating the need for mascara, NovaLash lashes are attached lash-by-lash and bonded to lashes (not skin) with medical-grade adhesive, allowing your natural lashes to continue to grow and thrive. But effortless glamour does require a bit of, well, effort: lash extensions must be moisturized nightly and an initial application can take up to two hours.

The best part? Thanks to our friends at NovaLash, we’re giving two lucky Z-LIFE readers a chance to get gorgeous lashes for the holidays. Simply leave YOUR best time saving beauty tip in the comments section below before November 7th and we’ll choose our two favorites to win a free NovaLash lash application and goody bag of NovaLash aftercare products. So spill!

If I’m in a huge hurry and don’t have time for a full-face makeover, I use the same mascara I’ve used on my lashes to give my brows a quick boost. Once I’ve used the majority of the mascara from the brush on my lashes, I skim –ever so lightly– my brows. It’s a quick way to frame the eyes, drawing more attention to them (especially if I haven’t had time to tweeze properly, the mascara can be applied only where you want it, directing attention to a good shape and not to the lighter “strays” that haven’t been tended to.

Thanks for such a great magazine and products–I am new to Z and can see that I am quickly becoming obsessed. Z, I can see, can easily be a way of life. I can’t wait to “earn” my Z sticker: “Zumba changed my Wife” for my hubby. He’s going to wonder where the new attitude (and look) is coming from =0)

When I am in a hurry or just want to look more “awake” in the morning, i go to my eye shadow primer! I love the paints by M.A.C. my favorite is “bare canvas” and it looks like just that! i love that i can put in on under my shadow of course to make it stay put but when in a hurry i can put it on my lids by itself for a bit of coverage(make sure to blend well!) and under the eye area to conceal and instantly brighten. add a little mascara and BAM! i look like i have virtually no makeup on yet i look refreshed and bright-eyed! add a little tinted moisturizer and use a pretty pink lipstick for both your lips and cheeks and you are ready to go in five minutes!

I am usually applying my face as I drive to work… yup that’s me, missing the green light because I apply mascara at the red ones! I have found that trying to moisturize, then apply a liquid foundation, then powder is time consuming (and difficult to do whilst driving). Instead I use a moisturizing primer, then use a 4 in 1 powder as my foundation! PURE makes a great one that provides great coverage and looks natural! Cuts down one step and I feel as though I don’t have layers of make up on!

  • Francine D. says:

Tinted moisturizer is a dynamite quick fix. Add a little eye liner to the top lid, some lip gloss and in less than 5 minutes you’ll have a fresh look.

    Love Z-Life!

    1. when i kno the next day is gonna be really busy i put on some of my clothes the night before so i can gt ready in the morning faster and get some extra sleep.
    2. if i’m running late to catch the bus to go to school or work i take my makeup bag and use the window on the bus as a mirror.
3 if i don’t have time to do my full face i use one product for more than one thing an example is my eyeshadow pallete i use it on my eyes then another color for my cheeks and sometimes i’ll put some on my lips under my lipgloss for an extra shine.
    4. if i ever am running extremely late and don’t have time to do my hair i put it in a bun it usually take an hour to get to my college so once i get there i take the bun out to reveal cute curls :)

I would have to say my best time saving beauty trick is to shower at night (after my ZUMBA classes) and curl my eye lashes then. In the morning as I am putting on the little bit of makeup I wear, I can swipe on mascara and go. It makes me look more awake and I save the extra little bit of time for other things…like making sure my new song is in my ZUMBA playlist. :)

I have 2 daughters, ages 3 years, and 3 months, so I basically have about 30 seconds to get myself put together before one is screaming and the other is putting lipstick on her eyelids! My absolutely essential “trick” is an all-over face bronzer and shimmer that I apply after foundation.. It’s a square pallet with 12 different shandes of bronze, gold and rose. (It’s made by Mark for Avon). I take my round brush and brush over the entire pallet then lightly dust my entire face. It’s my blush, bronzer and “glow” all in one 10 second step! The effect is a natural glow that hides dark circles, distracts from any blemishes and even makes me look like i’m well-rested!

  • Ivonne Villarreal says:

    My tips…
    1. Spray MAC Fix+ over entire face, curl lashes while spray dries.
    2. Apply moisturizer.
    3. (Optional) Apply light coat of foundation or tinted face primer on T zone or where needed only.
    4. Set with translucent powder.
    5. Apply waterproof masacara (great for ZUMBA!).
    6. Apply cheek color or bronzer & lip gloss!
    * Promise with practice way under 5mins! But my most important tip is a SMILE! It’s quick, easy & will put you & others around you in a good mood! ZUMBA <3!

  • Maria D. says:

My favorite time-saving tip: when those little greys at the temple start to show way before it’s time to dye my hair again, I use my mascara to darken them. It lasts all day and washes off in the shower. Presto-youthful looking hair in seconds!

  • Lanette says:

    1.Tinted moisturizer
    2.Mascara
    3.Blush
    4.Tinted lip balm

Less than three minutes and you’re done. If you want a “night look”. Add eyeliner and a lipstick in your bag to refresh after work.

Well when you have twin boys-1 year and walking and getting into everything like I do, there is not a whole lot of time for myself. As soon as I put them down for a nap I turn into “Super Mommy” mode and hurry and get “ready for the day”. This includes my eyeshadows, this helps open my eyes, so I dont look so exhausted from chasing those two cuties:)Next my mascara which everytime I put it on I wish I didnt have such extremly SHORT eyelashes it is such a bummer.Next comes the foundation to even out my skin tone. Then the bronzer and blush to give me that sunkissed look or at least try-the winter time you need that to brighten your face up. Then last but not least lipgloss- I love this it makes my lips look super full and plump:) this look sounds like a lot of steps but can be done in 15 minutes tops.
This is great so I can be ready for my boys to wake up and be ready to be chased or help mommy with zumba.

  • Trish B. says:

My general rule regarding make up is NO naked lips or eyelashes. Quick and easy to get you out of the door in a hurry.

  • Esperanza says:

By now we’ve learned the musts of mascara and lips, but don’t forget, we look our best when we do the simple things: sleep and hydrate!

Whatever it takes to get to bed, girls! (Hot cup of calming lavender tea, anyone?) Bright whites in those eyes make ‘em twinkle all the more! And H20 means plump skin that sheet lines disappear from oh so fast after a great moisturizer! Que bonita! Less time fixing the problems and more time enjoying the adventures of today, which of course begin with ZUMBA!

  • Shakara "Caressa" Lewis says:

    The best beauty tip ever:

Water, Water, Water! Drinking enough water (about 1/2 your body weight) keeps your skin clear, and moist preventing the appearance of lines and wrinkles as dry skin tends to make skin sag and shows off what wrinkles you do have.

  • Nicole says:

My best time saving beauty tip…hair accessories!!! I have thick curly hair and I’m constantly working out, so having it nice and neat EVERY day is nearly impossible. Cute headbands/scarves and stylish hats are a lifesaver. I can wake up with my hair looking like a complete mess. I’ll put it in a bun, grab a headband or my favorite flat cap, and voilà…perfect hair in less than 5 minutes.

  • Jill Smith says:

Before I tried this for myself, I would get annoyed at all the beauty articles recommending that I try this as a quick fix. But, it works!

Get yourself one of those all-in-one shimmery makeup sticks, then dot it on your eyes, lips, and cheeks. Swipe on two coats of mascara and you’re done!!

  • Prisca says:

Soft, Dark Eyeliner INSIDE upper lids. Lift the eyelashes and just run it under them, then over them (tricky, but worth it); bronzer brushed over cheeks and down nose; mascara; a really FUN hat and earrings. Saves on hair and accents just what I want accented. If there’s TIME, I still only do the Bare Minerals Face and eyes. I have big, fat lips, so I don’t accent them much.

  • Kris says:

I have just 3 basics that are a daily MUST …especially when headed to teach Zumba classes…
    1) double wear foundation for glowing, even skintone that lasts 15 hours and doesn’t rub off on clothes
    2) double wear mascarra – I don’t do waterproof because my eyes are sensitive and I wear contacts, but double wear (by Estee Lauder) is amazing!
    3) lips! I love the long lasting lip color of “24hour” it stays in place, has a great moisturizer, and adds that perfect sparkle and color.

  • carrie jones says:

I use a liquid bronzer to highlight my cheek bones after I have put on primer and foundation…. It enhances cheekbones ALSO, when I am going out and being center of attention to enhance some of my features, I apply a liquid bronzer on my collar bone!! It really looks nice and enhances the skinniness of the sexy collar bone

    BEST BEAUTY QUICK TIPS BY MELANIE~ZUMBA;

    1. DO ZUMBA! Zumba gets blood flowin’ which makes our skin glow, eyes sparkle, and brightens our pout! Plus, we feel better about ourselves. That’s beautiful for the inside and out.
    2. And if you still want a little help from the make up counter: rim the inside of the eyes (top and bottom) with jetblack for an INSTANT SMOKY look or rim them white for that “i just got 10 hours of sleep” look.
    3. Turn your mineral powder foundation into liquid foundation (quicker application than powder and brush): put a dab of moisturizer in your palm, sprinkle powder foundation over dab. Mix with your finger than apply to face.

  • Dani S says:

I do a couple of things. To feel more wide awake and refreshed, I keep a spray bottle in the fridge to spritz my face with cool water after I wash. Also, I have quite a bit of makeup (love variety), so I keep my bare minimum stuff (moisturizer, foundation, powder, mascara) separate for quick and easy access. No fumbling around trying to find the right stuff!

  • Robyn says:

This is a definitely a tip for all Blondes out there!

I discovered the amazing value in getting my eyebrows dyed. It’s super cheap ($5-$8) and lasts for a couple months time.. and it saves SO much time in the morning!
If you’re a fair Blonde like myself, then your eyelashes and brows are totally invisible, and so applying makeup in the morning takes an extra few minutes because you’re busy drawing on your features, rather than just enhancing them..!
Get your brows dyed (there’s always a darker strand on your head to pull from) and then all you’ll need to do is work on that mascara, apply your lip gloss, and perhaps a lil’ blush!

I can’t even imagine having NovaLash as a Blonde – I COULD SLEEP IN FOR SO MUCH EXTRA TIME!! Waking up to get ready for Zumba by just eating and drinking water? That would be HEAVEN! You can pretty much apply lip gloss ANYWHERE! Love It!

  • Kate Mack says:

With a bit of a front-loaded time and financial investment, I save MANY minutes in my daily routine.

    1. Permanent makeup: My eyebrows are sparse, so I had them permanently filled. It’s subtle and shaves a good 5-10 minutes off my routine in the morning and $30 every three weeks in brow pencils. I can always enhance with a pencil for nights out but don’t need to touch them for every day. The initial time and money investment is a bit steep at 2-3 two-hour sessions totaling anywhere from $200-$500, but it’s totally worth it on a daily basis and touch-ups are only required once yearly maximum at $50-$100 a shot.

    2. Faux tan: Evens skin tone and provides the illusion of a five-pound weight loss. Most spray tan formulas also contain nourishing skin ingredients as well. I treat myself to a spray tan about 2-3 times through the winter at around $40-$60 a session.

    3. Mattifying primer: Different brands work for different people, but I use this and powder instead of foundation, which takes too long to blend, to cut shine and reduce poor size. Between this and the faux tan, my skin looks perfect!

    4. Eyelid color corrector: Wakes me up in about twenty seconds. People can’t even tell if I’m wearing makeup or not…it is one of my favorite quick fixes for looking fresh and polished.

  • Denise Faicco says:

This one is great for those who have oily skin and get stuck with no access to their make-up bags! When you’re out of the house without your “supplies” and your T-Zone is looking shiny, head to the Ladies Room and tear off a piece of the disposable toilet seat covers. Use it as blotting paper, and your skin will be left looking fresh and clean!

  • Katherine says:

When I’m in an a.m. rush I keep it basic with the makeup. A sweep of Benefits powderflash under my eyes, waterproof mascara and some bronzer dusted over my face to give me some colour!

  • April Campbell says:

It’s simple for me….Drink plenty of water, eat Healthy, get plenty of sleep, And ZUMBA!

  • Gina Grant was right about mascara, waterproof or not, it is impossible to workout, sweat, and not get the black flakes forming under and around your eyes. I teach back to back classes and although I have a makeup routine, I certainly don’t look fresh going from one class to the next. A good sense of humor works for me! I put that on in the morning and it lasts all day and night!

  • Lora Gonzalez says:

I only have 5 products on an everyday basis:
    1. tinted moisturizer
    2. blush
    3. mascara mousse
    4. liquid eyeliner
    5. chubby stick (from clinique)

shake it up with different natural eye shadows, or go natural :-)

    love it

  • Rachel van Ooteghem says:

    1 – dance every evening!!!
    2 – hydrating daycream
3 – waterproof mascara (an absolute must, because I’m blonde, and my lashes are virtually invisible)
4 – waterproof eye pencil above and below the eye
    5 – lipbalm
6 – comb my hair; then curl the ends with my curl-hairdryer
2-6 takes about 5 min. but even with waterproof mascara and eye pencil, I look like a raccoon after my Zumba class.

  • Veronica says:

I swear by mascara and lip gloss. To save time I brush my teeth in the shower. The cool mint feeling combined with the warm water is so invigorating

  • Wearing your hair in a natural no fuss style that allows you to get up and go! This has saved my life many a time. When you don’t have to fuss with your hair first thing everything else just falls into place…Then you can just put on some glossy lip gloss and already have your lashes in and just go…(after you get dressed of course:)

  • Sarah says:

when it comes to time savers its all about the all-in-one products. For me its Benetint cheek stain which I use to brighten up my cheeks, eyelids, and pink up my lips. Also clear gloss which I use to finish off my brows, shine up my lashes and lips…I also put a little dab on the outer corners of my eyes to catch the light. It’s HOT.
