How I Found Myself Again

“In 2013, I was exhausted from the second I woke up to the minute I went to sleep. I had a 10-year old and worked a full-time office job. I didn’t like taking pictures of my body or face, or seeing myself in the mirror. Looking back, it wasn’t about my looks, it was that I didn’t feel like myself.

Where did my spirit go? Where did that fun, smiling and positive person go? I was missing the person who felt like me. The person who used to get excited about life and greet everybody with optimism.

My doctor said it might be my thyroid and, if so, I’d need medication to help it for the rest of my life. I wasn’t ready to accept that, so I looked for another solution. I asked myself, ‘What has changed? What did I stop doing?’. The answer: I had stopped dancing, because life got in the way.

I found Zumba classes at a local dance studio and was out of breath after the first song. I couldn’t believe I had 55 minutes left to go! As a former dance professional, this was a new challenge for me, but I loved it.

Now, I’m a licensed Zumba Instructor who teaches Zumba, Zumba Kids, and Zumba Kids, Jr. I have always wanted to make a difference in the world, and now I’m changing lives one day and one salsa step at a time. Most importantly, I have never felt more like myself. It’s an amazing life to live!”
